Why didn't the yankees resign Chad Gaudin?

Something's confusing me. He had an awesome ERA, a great number of strikeouts, and a very low number of RBIS and walks given up. Although he did give a couple homeruns in the season, it was still great to have him on the team. Our pitching sucks anyway, why not bring him back?
